2025 has so far been a good year for tying up loose ends. I have become confident and efficient enough in my chosen software that I can put together acceptable material in a reasonable amount of time, which has been a great help for rapid-firing several projects in sequence.
The abandoned comic book project is hazy in my memory, but I remember one of the general ideas was "Skyrim in space". it was to combine the rugged landscapes and uneasy politics of Bethesda's 2011 fantasy RPG game with a hard sci-fi analysis of starting life on another planet. It never got much farther beyond an unfinished overview document that I no longer have.
The Relmann Institute of Applied Research started life as an offhand sketch in 2022. It wasn't until this year that I rediscovered it and tried my hand at realizing the design in the Source Engine. It was inspired by various brutalist university buildings in the north of England.
The I.A. Latham model was sculpted, unwrapped and textured in two days. This was made rather easy by having a generic low-poly (the texturing hides how primitive the mode actually is) female body mesh on hand from another project from which I could build on top of. The textures were made using the era-appropriate method of combining photo materials with digital illustration.
